KBL Round 50 (Regular Season): Mobis Phoebus defeat LG Sakers

The Regular Season in KBL just ended. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Sakers (36-18) in Ulsan on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by eighth ranked Mobis Phoebus (18-36) 78-56. Mobis Phoebus dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Sakers' 24. Mobis Phoebus looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by LG Sakers' players. The former international power forward Ji-Hoon Ham (198-1984) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 9 assists. American center Rayshaun Hammonds (206-1998, college: Georgia) contributed with 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American-Australian forward Kyrin Galloway (203-1999, college: UNCG) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds for LG Sakers. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mobis Phoebus maintains eighth position with 18-36 record. Defending champion LG Sakers still keep top place with 18 games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Anyang. Second ranked Anyang (35-19) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 3rd ranked Knights (32-22) 67-65 on Wednesday evening. American power forward Johnny OBryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) scored 14 points to lead the charge for the winners and Hyeok So chipped in 10 points during the contest. American power forward Darryl Monroe (202-1986, college: GMU) responded with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Anyang maintains second position with 35-19 record behind leader LG Sakers. Seoul Knights at the other side dropped to the fourth place with 22 games lost.
The game in Busan was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Wonju DB (33-21) played at the court of 6th ranked Egis (28-26). Wonju DB managed to secure a 8-point victory 109-101 on Wednesday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Egis. Henry Ellenson notched a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 20 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort. Even 25 points by Ung Heo did not help to save the game for KCC Egis. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Wonju DB have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Loser Egis dropped to the fifth position with 26 games lost. They share it with Sono SG.

In the last two games of round 50 Daegu beat Seoul Thunders on the road 80-73. Suwon KT won against Sono SG on its own court 76-72.
The most impressive performance of 50th round was 18 points and 6 rebounds by Kevin Quiambao of Sono SG.




Anyang - Seoul Knights 67-65

Important game to mention about took place in Anyang. Second ranked Anyang (35-19) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 3rd ranked Knights (32-22) 67-65 on Wednesday evening. KCC Egis - Wonju DB 101-109

The game in Busan was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Wonju DB (33-21) played at the court of 6th ranked Egis (28-26). Wonju DB managed to secure a 8-point victory 109-101 on Wednesday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Egis. Wonju DB looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American center Henry Ellenson (208-1997, college: Marquette) notched a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 20 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and the former international forward Hyo-Geun Jeong (200-1993) supported him with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 25 points by the former international guard Ung Heo (183-1993) did not help to save the game for KCC Egis. American power forward Dewan Hernandez (211-1997, college: Miami, FL) added 14 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Wonju DB have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Loser Egis dropped to the fifth position with 26 games lost. They share it with Sono SG.

Seoul Thunders - Daegu 73-80

The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked Daegu's (16-38) road victory over 10th ranked Samsung Thunders (17-37) in Seoul 80-73 on Wednesday. Daegu dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Samsung Thunders' 32. Daegu looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-1989, college: Missouri) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel (177-1999) supported him with 29 points and 8 assists. Four Daegu players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 27 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists by Turkish power forward Kerem Kanter (208-1995, college: Xavier) did not help to save the game for Seoul Thunders. Naturalized American guard Justin Gutang (191-1997, college: Skyline JC) added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the hosts. Samsung Thunders' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Daegu went down to tenth position due to points difference. Loser Samsung Thunders dropped to the ninth place with 37 games lost.

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Skygunners (28-26) lost to seventh ranked Sonicboom (27-27) in Busan 72-76 on Wednesday. American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) notched 17 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and the former international forward Doowon Lee (199-2000) supported him with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Sonicboom players scored in double figures. Even 18 points and 9 rebounds by American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) did not help to save the game for Sono SG. Filipino Kevin Quiambao (193-2001) added 18 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Suwon KT maintains seventh position with 27-27 record. Loser Skygunners keeps the fifth place with 26 games lost. They share the position with KCC Egis.
